We should also mention a psychological trap. Many forms of friction appear useful. Reading more before launching. Reorganizing tools. Tweaking systems. Replying instantly to everyone. These actions create the feeling of progress while often delaying real progress. Preparation replaces execution. Urgency replaces importance.

Finally, measure output differently. Instead of celebrating busyness, track meaningful progress. Did you finish something important? Did you move a core project forward? Did you create leverage? Those are better scorecards than inbox speed or meeting volume.

Be honest about the downside. Protecting attention can make you seem less available. Some people may dislike delayed replies or website firmer boundaries. But over time, boundaries often create more value for everyone when they allow higher-quality work.
